Mission Control

Tonight I got to visit NASA and got to see how the space shuttle program and the space program in general “got off the ground”.  There was a ton of neat things to see, and to enjoy.  When you look at all the great ideas that people can come up with when they work together toward a common goal it is truly amazing.  Is it possible for us to be inspired by something more amazing than a trip to the moon?  Is it possible that humans could be so inspired by their creator that a trip to rejoin him in heaven would drive us to deliver His gospel to all people.  This is our Mission, this is our Goal.  We are being sent out into the great unknown with this mission.  We will get our strength through our God, we get our inspiration, and example from His Son Jesus Christ, we are lead by the Holy Spirit, and our Mission Control is His Word the Bible. Christians lets focus on the Mission.  Let’s let the Spirit use us.  Let’s be available for God to use us.  Let’s worship our Lord, lets give him the credit in our lives.  Remember folks going to the moon was pretty neat.  Going to Heaven, after raising from the dead to worship the creator of the universe….Well that’s all together something else.  That is a miracle that is given to each of us through grace from the love of our God.  Now that is a Mission worth working for.  How do we know this is our Mission?  Check out Acts Chapter 1 and see what Jesus asked His disciples to do.

 

 

Lamentations 3 Hope in the Midst of Affliction

Lamentation talks of Jeremiah and what he saw in all his affliction all of the sin and sorrow surrounding him.  What did he see?

Lamentations 3: 19-26

“I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall.  I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me.  Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:  Because the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”  The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”

Lord help us to wait on you.  Jeremiah continues:

Lamentations 27-33

“It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young.  Let him sit alone in silence for the LORD has laid it on him.  Let him bury his face in the dust-there may yet be hope.  Let him offer his cheek to one who would strike him, and let him be filled with disgrace.  For men are not cast off by the Lord forever.  Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love.  For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men.”

Lord help me to reflect in silence, help me to repent, your compassion is so great and amazing to me.  Your blessings, teachings, and corrections are far more than I deserve.  When I look at my life there has been times of affliction, some from outside sources and some self-inflicted.  The Lord my God has used these moments to teach me.  Sometimes to the point of despair as my hope is to always please Him and when I fall short I feel unworthy.  However, it is impossible for me a sinful man to please the Lord in my own power.  I must walk in the Spirit, I must abide to the vine, I must submit to Jesus.  I will always be unworthy in my flesh, it is only through the saving power of Christ’s work on the cross that I am seen as righteous.  My worthiness of heaven, of a loving Father, is  safely placed in the hands of Jesus, and not my filthy rags (aka works).  What could be more reassuring than that.  Thank you Jesus!  I declare to the world “Great is your Faithfulness.”
