There are many great things about my Father. He is good with fixing cars, carpentry, fishing, hunting, and just about anything a dad should be good at. As a kid I took him for granted many times as I went off to play basketball or baseball with the kids in the neighborhood. I wish I would have taken more time to learn from him. He helped me to start my first business, and he supported me in sports and other endeavors. I’m so thankful that God put me in my family and put such a wonderful man as my authority.
My dad lost his dad when he was about 8 years old. I’ve recently been watching some children that have lost their mother and no matter how great the kids are, you are always wondering how they could make it without such a wonderful parent. I’m spoiled to have had my dad for each of my 41 turns around the sun. I know that many folks don’t have parents still with them, and if they are the chances of both parents still being married is fewer still. I know that my father is flawed, and has had days in his life that I’m sure were hard. I’m sure of that because I’m short on perfection myself. But one thing I’ve never doubted is the love of my dad. He has always been there for me and always wanted the best for me.
Fathers my prayer for all of you is that you love your children with all your heart. That you would put everything you could into their lives. That you would introduce them to Jesus Christ, and if you are blessed enough to one day baptize them praise God. Dad’s you are the closest thing to a God Like figure your sons will know this side of heaven. This is a big responsibility. Make sure that you do your best with the blessings God has given you. Dad thank you so much for me never having to doubt your love for me.
Happy Father’s Day Dad!
(The Photo above was taken at Texas Motor Speedway in Fall of 2015. It was the last time my dad and I saw Jeff Gordon as an active driver (our favorite driver). I needed to get a die cast signed so that I would have one for each of my boys. As you can see dad and I both got one that day. Fathers doing fun things together for their sons hard to beat that. What a great day!)
